On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, a ribbon-cutting celebration occurred, marking the completion of a remarkable $5 million interchange connection between TXGN Railway and Union Pacific in Gonzales County.
"This significant investment is much more than a financial number. It promises growth, efficiency, and transportation safety that will transform our community and the region," says Susan Sankey, Executive Director of Gonzales Economic Development Corporation.
Building a Future Together
With these funds, TXGN Railway has made vital infrastructure upgrades and improvements at the Harwood interchange. This boosts safety and expands capacity, promoting unprecedented growth within TXGN's Class 1 partners and the entire region.
The impactful journey towards this achievement was backed by matching federal infrastructure funding called CRISI (Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements). Awarded by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the CRISI application was championed by key federal and state legislators, TxDOT, rail customers, Union Pacific, and of course, the incredible community of Gonzales.
